MIKAS

Learn More About MIKAS

MIKAS challenges many of the assumptions we make about contemporary jewellery.

At first glance, the necklaces appear bold and sculptural, with generous proportions and striking forms. It's only when you hold one that the collection begins to reveal itself. The pieces are unexpectedly light, soft to the touch and comfortable to wear, inviting a second look at the materials and the thinking behind them.

At House of Valerie, we're always interested in designers who approach their craft from a different perspective. MIKAS does exactly that, creating jewellery that is as carefully considered in the hand as it is to the eye.

Designed With Someone In Mind

The story behind MIKAS is a personal one.

Founder Mika began making jewellery for her mother, who had grown frustrated with heavier necklaces and awkward clasps that had become difficult to manage. Rather than accepting those limitations, Mika started experimenting with alternative materials and closures that made jewellery easier to wear without losing its character.

What began as a thoughtful solution for one person gradually became MIKAS in 2019, after friends and strangers repeatedly asked where the pieces had come from.

It's a beginning that still shapes the collection today. Every design starts by asking how jewellery can feel better to wear, not just how it should look.

Rethinking The Material

Most contemporary jewellery is defined by precious metals or gemstones. MIKAS takes a very different approach.

Lightweight rubber becomes the main material, shaped into oversized loops, layered strands, knotted forms and sculptural necklaces that have real presence without unnecessary weight. Rather than disguising the material, Mika celebrates it, exploring its texture and movement in ways that traditional jewellery simply can't.

At House of Valerie, we find that this is often what surprises people most. The jewellery doesn't try to imitate something else. It embraces the qualities of the material, allowing it to become part of the design rather than simply supporting it.

It's often the smallest decisions that make the biggest difference.

Magnetic clasps replace fiddly fastenings, making each necklace easy to put on and remove. Knotted rubber tubing creates rhythm and movement throughout the collection, whilst layered forms give many of the designs depth without making them feel heavy or overwhelming.

These details aren't there to draw attention to themselves. They simply make the jewellery more enjoyable to wear, whether paired with relaxed linen, oversized knitwear or more structured tailoring.

It's a thoughtful approach that reflects the way the collection was conceived from the very beginning, where comfort and design have always gone hand in hand.

MIKAS at House of Valerie

Every jewellery collection we choose brings something different to House of Valerie.

MIKAS offers a perspective that feels refreshingly original. The materials are unexpected, the designs are instantly recognisable, and the experience of wearing the jewellery is unlike anything most people anticipate.

For us, that's what makes the collection so rewarding. It challenges familiar ideas of what contemporary jewellery can be, whilst remaining practical enough to become part of everyday dressing.
