US TARIFFS EXPLAINED

Hey there to our audience in the USA!

Welcome to The House of Valerie — a space where we champion bold, creative women and make no apology for self-expression. We live life on the runway (even if it’s really the sidewalk), and we celebrate attitude, rebellion, and authenticity.

If that sounds like a community you’d like to join, then regardless of which side of the pond we live on, we consider you part of our tribe!

IMPORT DUTIES, CUSTOMS & TARIFFS

Our store and warehouse are located in England, but our designers produce garments and accessories from ateliers and factories across the world. When U.S. Customs calculates import duties and tariffs, what matters most is the country of origin (COO) — that’s where the product was made, not where it’s sold or shipped from.

Tariffs are calculated as a percentage of the product’s value and are paid on top of the retail price. Some countries currently incur higher rates than others, which can make international orders more expensive. Most of the items we stock at HOV are made across low tariff countries, but our biggest brand collection, RUNDHOLZ, uses a number of factories, one of which is located in China, which currently incurs among the highest tariffs.

To make shopping the RUNDHOLZ easier, we’ve created a “RUNDHOLZ - Low Tariff Collection” — signposting items that typically attract the lowest U.S. customs duties.

The prices displayed on our website exclude customs, duties, and tariff charges, as these are collected directly by DHL Express on behalf of U.S. Customs once your parcel arrives in America. You’ll receive an email or text from DHL with a secure payment link before your parcel continues on its way to you.

Our prices are shown exclusive of UK VAT (a 20% tax charged on UK and EU orders). Removing this helps offset some of the import duties you may be charged upon delivery — for many customers, the savings from VAT removal and the new import charges are roughly equivalent.

Of course, whilst we have created the low tariff RUNDHOLZ collections to help identify the most cost effective items, you are more than welcome to shop all RUNDHOLZ items.

To help you anticipate the additional charges, we have added information on each product description to indicate where the item was made. The list below shows the tariff charge percentages of items manufactured in the most common countries. While we can help estimate duties where possible, final costs are always calculated by U.S. Customs and depend on your delivery address and the item’s country of origin.
