MUNTHE

Learn More About MUNTHE

Some designers make clothes. Others create a world around them. MUNTHE has always felt like the latter.

Founded in Copenhagen over thirty years ago, the brand has developed a style that is instantly recognisable without ever becoming predictable. Every collection feels creative, but never overwhelming. It's one of the reasons we've always enjoyed having MUNTHE at House of Valerie. The pieces have a personality of their own, yet they slip naturally into the wardrobes of women who simply want to dress well.

Whether it's a printed silk shirt or an unexpected touch of sequins, MUNTHE has a way of making everyday dressing feel just a little more interesting.

A Creative Voice From Copenhagen

Naja Munthe founded the brand in Copenhagen in 1994 with a clear creative vision that still shapes every collection today.

Whilst Danish fashion is often associated with clean lines and simplicity, MUNTHE has never been afraid to introduce something more expressive. Art, craftsmanship and curiosity have always been part of the conversation, giving the collections a character that feels distinctly its own.

Over the years the brand has continued to evolve, but it has never lost that original point of view. There's a confidence to the collections that comes from knowing exactly what they are, without feeling the need to follow every shift in fashion.

We think that's one of the reasons MUNTHE has remained so relevant. The clothes don't feel tied to a particular moment. They simply continue to develop whilst staying true to the ideas that first made the brand stand out.

Every Print Starts Somewhere

One of the details we always look forward to seeing is the artwork.

Many of MUNTHE's prints begin as hand-painted designs before they're translated onto fabric. Knowing that changes the way you look at the collection. The prints don't feel like decoration added at the end of the design process; they feel like the starting point.

At House of Valerie, we love the way these prints sit alongside the rest of the collection. They're expressive, but they're never difficult to wear. A printed blouse can be styled as easily as a favourite white shirt, whilst a patterned dress feels just as at home with trainers as it does with something smarter.

It's this balance that makes the prints so successful. They bring colour and personality to a wardrobe without ever taking it over.

Creating With Care

Spend a little time with a MUNTHE collection and you begin to notice that it's built on contrast.

Tailored jackets sit beside fluid dresses. Sequins appear next to soft knitwear. Structured trousers are paired with painterly prints. Individually, the pieces are striking but together, they somehow feel effortless.

We've found that's often what draws people to the brand. Someone might first notice an embellished blazer, but it's usually the quieter pieces that complete the wardrobe. Nothing feels designed to compete for attention. Instead, each garment gives the others room to shine.

That makes MUNTHE surprisingly versatile. You can introduce a single piece into an existing wardrobe or embrace the collection more fully, and both approaches feel equally natural.

MUNTHE at House of Valerie

MUNTHE has long been one of those collections that brings something different to House of Valerie.

It shares the thoughtful design and quality that run through many of the brands we stock, yet it approaches dressing from its own perspective. There is creativity here, but also restraint. Colour sits comfortably beside tailoring, prints alongside timeless wardrobe staples, making the collection feel expressive without ever becoming intimidating.

For us, that's what makes MUNTHE such a rewarding designer to wear. The clothes encourage individuality in a way that feels completely natural, allowing every woman to make the collection her own rather than asking her to fit into someone else's idea of style.
